Applying for our 2020 course at Design School

We are now accepting applications for our upcoming Abbotsford day course (running Wednesdays) commencing on the 26th August, 2020. ðŸš©
PLEASE NOTE: Our commencement date may shift dependent on current safety and health restrictions. It is very likely that this course may not be able to begin until a later date (such as October). We will not begin this course until it is safe to do so in our regular class environment.

If you would like to book an application appointment with us, please read all of the material below very carefully and read the instructions on how to contact us below.

Our Interior Decoration courses require prospective students to undertake an application process, to make sure that you’re the right fit for Design school, and that we’re the right fit for you.

You do not need to have a folio or any prior experience in the design world to apply. We are looking for motivated individuals first and foremost, whom are eager to learn and are prepared to commit themselves to exciting new opportunities.

An application involves two stages:
Stage 1: an interview with us, so we can learn a bit more about you and what you hope to get out of Design School. Usually, we would commence this step at our Abbotsford location physically, but for health and safety reasons we will be completing these interviews through remote interviews using zoom.
Some computer skills will be tested during this interview.

Stage 2: involves filling out some paperwork, organising government funding (if applicable) and completing a few basic skills tests in the fields of literacy.

As part of the application process we also draft a payment plan, but please note that absolutely no money changes hands until you have been offered a place in the course; and then only if you accept it.

Check to see if you would be eligible for government funding for this course
Finding this out requires no lengthy phone calls or Centrelink visits; just that you have a read of the following short document here. If you’re still unsure after looking over these questions, please call us on 0421 788 813 to confirm your eligibility status in advance of your booking.
Ensure you're available for the duration of the course
Most courses run for around 13 / 14 months from commencement to completion, this includes all scheduled time off class to account for school holidays and public holidays.
It’s expected for students to miss a class here or there, but if you have a lengthy vacation booked during usual school operating terms, or are planning on moving away etc. please reconsider applying for one of our courses at a future date when it’s more suitable for you.
You'll need a laptop, and a basic level of computer skills to be accepted into the course
You will need your own laptop computer for this course. You do not need to buy a new one, any functioning laptop that you have full access to should be sufficient. Tablets are unfortunately unsuitable for some of the subjects we learn.

By no means do you need to be a computer expert, but you do need to know the basics such as:
~ using your internet browser,
~ downloading files & images from the internet, then locating said files once downloaded,
~ copying / pasting / renaming / saving / files
~ ability to use the basics of presentation software (such as, but not limited to: powerpoint, keynote or canva)
~an openness to learning new skills and technology

This is certainly not an I.T course, but we will be utilising the many wonderful functions and shortcuts that technology offers us as part of your learning and your assessments.

Applicants are required to have a minimum level of computer skills to be offered a place in the course.

But most importantly, make sure the course is right for you
If you’re unsure if our course is the right fit for you, please contact us to get more details or go over any questions you have. Our Certificate IV course is aimed at those hoping to kickstart their career into the design industry. For more info you could take a look at our course flyer here, and also our FAQ page. Or maybe you would potentially be inspired by our instagram.

Applications are open for our 2020 Abbotsford day class only.

If you've read and understood the important points above, you can proceed to book in a stage 1 appointment with us remotely over zoom. To book your appointment, all you need to do is contact us via email on design@mptrainingandrecruitment.com.au  and include the following information:

- Any times you are available to apply from those listed below (the more the merrier)

- That you understand the session will test some of your computer skills. You will need access to a laptop for this remote appointment. Preferably, this would be the laptop that you would plan on using for the course.

- Whether or not you are eligible for government funding (as this will alter the application process slightly).
